Awesome trip to Singapore

Recently I had been to Singapore for my backpacker trip. It was to relax myself before starting my clinical elective. Well I would say that trip to Singapore was fruitful for me, despite relatively costly if to compare with Ringgit Malaysia.

I had a dream to pursue my clinical elective at Singapore, however due to certain unforeseen circumstances and limitations, I have to give up eventually. Anyway I believe it happens for reasons, moreover there might be chances for me to work at Singapore hospital in future. Who knows???

Thus to fulfill my dream to step into Singapore, I had made myself into visiting the country, neighbor of Malaysia on south. What had amazed me was their transportation via MRT with their efficiency and convenience to their residents and tourists as well. I also noticed that people over there moving very fast in pace, which I guess showing their attitude of being serious, efficient, and always moving forward. This phenomenon had inspired me to be as hardworking as they do, so that one day I could walk as fast as they do, think as serious as they do. Having said so, this was my personal opinion thus others need not to agree with me.

I had a great time enjoying myself at Universal Studio Singapore, I would say it is really a must go place for those visiting Singapore. I felt entertained inside the famous tourist attraction for whole day. I will visit the place again in near future again if I am going to Singapore again.

All in all, Singapore gave me a very good impression, I enjoy being a tourist there. Anyway I have to be realistic, to achieve my goal. Time to move forward, adopt their thinking, do it in my own way.

SongFall

This is my latest updated blog after gaining inspiration from the latest Bond series movie "Skyfall". Well I had not watched the movie yet, but knowing the synopsis and watching the trailer in brief gave me a surge of intense feeling about the meaning behind Skyfall. This is just my personal opinion, which does not represent others' view on this title.

I feel that the plot of story inside Skyfall does not restricted in movie per se, in real life such kind of plot does exists, and I believe that at some point of time, not at the present moment, such plot may happen to me as well, of course it won't be Skyfall if happen in my life, I would rather named it as "SongFall", because the actor is James Bond, I am not. I am Song, Magnum Song. James Bond is a secret agent, while Magnum Song is a university student. Hahaha.

"SongFall" is a story of mine which might resemble the plot of story in the movie Skyfall, well if you ask me what plot did I mention, I would not elaborate here. I suggest you can watch the trailer, or synopsis at least if you reluctant to watch the whole movie in order to understand the plot. Basically my impression or insight gained from the title "SkyFall" is a kind of downhill where one rises up again to redeem himself in term of pride, pitfall of life which will cause significant change in one's life.

Thus my own story "SongFall" in my imagination would be in future, or near future, where I might encounter pitfalls of life, aka downhills, in which I have to find a way to react to it. To make it clearer, I am more concerned to discuss about grieving as in my own "SongFall", a story of how Magnum Song react to  loss by grieving.

Oh, a disclaimer: this story line is just a kind of imagination, a projection of the blog author in response to issue of grieving and the movie title "SkyFall".

To avoid confusion, it is better to clarify few terms. Grief refers to the feelings that arise when you suffer a loss in your life. Loss refers to a breaking of a bond you’ve formed with a significant person, place, thing, or idea (including beliefs) in your life. Grieving refers to the process of acknowledging the loss, experiencing the grief that the loss produces, and incorporating the loss into the rest of your life.

I remembered that one of psychiatrists that I had his lectures being attended, had mentioned that everyday is a loss, where we lost our yesterday, but at the same time we gain the present, and accompanied by tomorrow which depends upon how one react to the present moment he gained. Therefore everyday indeed grieving process does happens, knowingly or unknowingly by an individual. I agreed and amazed with his thought regarding this issue, well is up to the readers to decide to agree or agree not.

In order to understand grieving, I would suggest 3 actions: acknowledge the loss, experience it and incorporate the loss into the remainder of your life. Well I am not the one saying that, you can find the suggestions in a book called "Grieving for Dummies". The 3 elements will be related to the imaginary hero, Magnum Song in "SongFall"

First, acknowledge the loss. This task can run the gamut from accepting the awful truth of it to finally facing up to its lasting impact on your life. Mr. Magnum learned from the element that he lost his yesterday from the moment he wakes up in the morning of a new day, and he accepts that time flies. Actions done cannot be undone, thus he chooses to let everyday happens as it is to be.

Next, Mr. Magnum learned to experience the grief the loss produces. This task can run the gamut from suffering the wave of emotions it brings up to contemplating its influence on his life. He realized that he lost something for everything he is working for. For instance by opting to watch movie during weekend, he lost few hours of studying or other leisure activities. He experienced a feeling of loss, where he realized that he cannot make both ends meet. Therefore he decided to follow his instinct to guide his decision making throughout his life, as he has to be responsible for every action he takes.

Lastly, Mr. Magnum learned to incorporate the loss into the remainder of his life. This task can run the gamut from simply surviving the grief produced by the loss to fully integrating the loss into his everyday life. He gets to understand the loss is part and parcel of his life, and therefore he is able to grief over every loss he encounters, because he understands that his loss will be accompanied by a gain, where seen immediately or in near future.

In short, "SongFall" illustrates the actor, Magnum Song as a guy who learned to respond to loss in his everyday life by grieving. He will try his best to cope up with any pitfall that he might encounter in future.

My birthday 11/11/2012

11/11/2012, another year of birthday for me, well as usual I would like to appreciate my mother for bearing me in her tummy for about 10 months and tolerated the pain of labour. I will not be here writing this blog without her sacrifice to deliver, raise and support me all the while.

My birthday wish was same like previous year, therefore I would not elaborate much on that, those who had followed my previous blogs might had some clues about it. Haha.

This year I felt myself growing up and exposed to many things in the world, well this is my own perception, you may or may not agree with it. I began to feel good about myself and close to the path of light, where one day I will be moving toward the right direction of life.

Ever since I been leaving secondary school, I was bound to decision making in daily life, for instance choosing path of pre university education, application for local public universities with course of interest, financial assistance during university time, and many others which I find would be exhaustive if I further elaborate. Until now, I still feel that decision making is a kind of daunting task for me, as I bear the consequence(s) for each decision that I made, where I can't put blame on others.

Anyway, I am certain that every decision that I made is correct at the point of time, and I should not regret on it.

Thank you.

Brand new of Myself

It had been quite some time that I had not updated my blog. I had been posted at Psychiatry wards for almost half of posting duration.

Initial impression was unpleasant, where I kept believe in what patients say causing me to be in sort of confusion or fear, which most of the time I heard about seeing or hearing unusual voices or figures.

However later on I began to adapt to these situations where I instead listen to patient, but do not allow those words to attach as it is, I tried to figure out what the hidden agenda behind patients' words. The change in approach allows me to overcome previous experience of unnecessary confusion or fear.

By seeing so many psychiatric patients, where they wonder around and seem like so free, sometimes I did admire them in that sense, however reality check told me these sort of so called 'leisure" come with price - lost of "real freedom".

All the while being inflicted with negative happening more than positive kind, I came across my mind of giving up.

However by seeing some so called "insane" patients (no offense), I had came to a thought that I should be grateful for being sane and granted with real freedom: able to travel independently, not institutionized, can go shopping malls, etc.

Especially when I encounter a very "special" patient who really talkative, with lots of ideas, being self proud, excessive "euphoric" state, he himself had gave me inspiration that I have to move on, my life has not come to the end yet. In fact the inspiration I earned from him is as same as quoted by one great psychiatrist: "life is full of mess, just deal with it and move on".

I won't know what will happen in the future, so just see how it goes, and my life goes on.

Silence is golden

Silence and noise, another pair of opposing matters, after being discussed about dream versus reality, and followed by truth versus lie. Suddenly I had been in feeling of sharing my personal view upon silence and noise.

Sometimes is better to keep silent than to tell others what you feel because it hurts badly when you come to know that they can hear you but can not understand.

To find a real and sincere listener is as looking for precious gem, it was somewhere around us, but yet to be discovered. That is my perception about listener.

Being a listener, one has to listen, not just hear, listen by mean of being focus, concentrate on the person who speaks or voice out his / her words. By hearing itself, one could not understand the meaning(s) being portrayed by the one who speaks. Without understanding there is no point being a listener.

Therefore some people might just opt to be silent rather than looking for listener, because it disappoints more when one hears but can not understand.

Good listener will just listen all along the words from the one who speaks, and responds after understand the meaning(s) behind those words. However such good listeners are rarely seen, in reality not much of such good quality of listeners.

Dark and Light

It has been a long time where I had not been updating my blog, as I did not have ample of time for constructing my new blog title.

What I think about my new topic would be some new thoughts that came across my mind not long ago.

In the past, most often I can't see what was in front of my path, mainly I referred myself as in dark condition, where I seemed like walking without any trace, while I still have to continue walking. Somehow I was just walking without knowing the end, where everything seemed to be black for me.

I kept telling myself on day the light will come upon me to shine into the dark sight from me, where I can find my real path to move forward.

There were few times where I thought I saw some bright shines, but eventually it turned out to be dimmer and dimmer as times goes by, where I found the truth behind those "lights". After all my path turned out to be dark again, as I was at rock tunnel without any single hole for light to come in.

There will be one day where I found the real light that shine upon my path, where I found the lead to my true way to move on, I believe and I will not give up.

Truth and Lie

Principle of Ying Yang saying that there are many opposing matters around us in the world, for example good vs evil, dream vs reality, and same goes to truth and lie. Well in previous blog I had discussed about dream vs reality with their contrast features. Here I will discuss on truth and lie.

Truth is opposed by lie, which truth being the state of being in accordance with fact or reality, on the other hand lie is defined as to hold something which one knows is not the whole truth to be the whole truth, intentional.

In my own point of view, lie can be interpreted in 2 different contexts. First to hide the truth or not willing to let others know the real meaning or context. Secondly with good intention to protect others from getting inflicted by knowing the truth. Either one has its pros and cons.

Actually, my personal view was that either truth or lie is a double edged sword. Why did I said so?

Because by knowing truth or lie, there are always two possible outcomes: feeling good or feeling bad, isn't it? Don't you agree with that?

On the other hand, the outcomes of telling truth or lie also depends on the context of the speaker(s) and interpreter(s) / listener(s). Of course good news can be very entertaining, however bad news will be very sad and depressing.

Once truth or lie is being revealed, it can no longer hide itself, It had revealed its identity, to both speaker(s) and interpreter(s) / listener(s). Truth or lie can be known by listening, seeing, hearing, touching and searching. What I am trying to portray here is that once one had seen it, heard about it, thought about it, truth or lie will revealed itself through. Just like in context of dream vs reality in my previous blog (http://magnumsst.blogspot.com/2012/05/dream-reality-opposed-or-similar.html). In fact the duo can be linked with current topic: truth and lie. How??

Just like someone lying to others, where people believes on him / her, in fact those people who believe are dreaming, because they haven't wake up to face the reality, they are being in the state of disillusionment, Perhaps the someone has done it intentionally or unintentionally. However bear in mind that lie can hardly hide itself long from people's mind, one day when lie revealed, and that will be the time where people know about the truth. That also marks the time where people who believes in lie previously (dreamers) have to face with the truth in reality. All happens just about in a matter of time.

Truth or lie, by revealing itself, brings about certain meaning or agenda, depending on interpretations of people knowing it.

Human are bound to choice, where they can choose to accept or deny the meaning behind truth or lie. People can choose to accept or deny about a lie, however once truth is being known, one can hardly deny its presence. Truth is almost always true, whether you like it or not.

All in all, truth or lie can be protective to one side of people, on another side of people it can be devastating, all depending on interpretation of the fact(s) being good or bad. In reality, not all truth brings about good feelings, similarly not all lie brings about anger or bad feeling. Once you had seen, or heard about truth, you have to accept it because it cannot be changed, unlike lie where it may be twisted around.

What you see may not be what you get, what you heard may not be what you think, but reasoning will draw some conclusions behind it, and when you get to know that it was the truth, then you have no choice other than to accept it as it is to be. Whatever happens behind it no longer serve its importance, truth always a truth, until and unless one forgets about it, otherwise it remains as truth itself. Remember the feeling inflicted upon knowing the truth is permanent, either good or bad feeling.

Dream & Reality: Opposed or similar?

Dreams may be horrible or wonderful. As for many people, they always fond of having wonderful dreams, similarly it happens to me as well.

Wonderful dreams sometimes come into my mind, in which whatever I expect in reality occurs in my dreams, all my bucket lists seemed to be fulfilled. But upon waking up, dreams remain dreams, fantasy remains as fantasy, they are still not real, though.

Reality mostly opposed of my wonderful dreams, things that I always think of, appeared too ideally inside my dreams, I realize those are just fantasies, but I chose to enjoy that short temporary moments of joyness and perhaps, pseudo euphoria. Soon and later, in daytime when I am facing reality, it hurts, causing pain, feeling of sorrow.

Well, inside my dreams, island become land, which was filled with much activities, happiness, and I realize those were dreams, I gonna be excited shortly, but the cruelness of reality comes much aggressive and longer duration of pain and sorrow feeling, which I have no choice but to bear with it.

What you see may not be what you get or think, but reasoning will tell the real meaning behind your visual memories, they don't just happen in front of your eyes for nothing. Perhaps they are trying to confer some hidden meanings which I have to justify those wisely. I don't always judge something by just simply glance or look through. However I can't avoid that whatever I seen remains reality, they can't be just dreams. The visual context may differ with exact context, but seriously does them differ much??

Sometimes I told myself, whatever I seen was something very casual or usual, but thorough judgement and justification did comes with similar meaning with visual interpretation. And thus I told myself, FACE THE REALITY!!!

"WAKE UP FROM UR FANTASY DREAM!! You are living in world full of reality". I realized that I have to accept the fact that most of unhappy events or experiences will come along with me throughout my life journey, I can't be euphoric all the while, but if I really get a chance into it I gonna appreciate it for long, because happiness is cure to my pain.

Island still remains as island, island hardly become land. I understand it, and I accept as it is to be, being part of my life, REALITY, with dreams and fantasies as my sources of euphoria, perhaps accompanied by some real life pleasurable moments. Hahahahaha.

Life is full of choices

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Since born we were bound to decision making, and being guided by our family members. However as we grow older to teen age, we began to bear responsibilities behind each of our decisions.

And when I looked back at the poem above, I began to recall my situations, where since I entered university, I had to learn to decide by my own, and be responsible for the consequences. I am not sure how capable I am to learn to adapt to this kind of situation, however it was inevitable, I was far apart from my family, I had to learn to handle situations by my own.

Sometimes I find myself able to handle decision making wisely, but not always. Apparently there will be time where I was in dilemma, especially when two options were given, but only one option was allowed to be, there won't be such ideally win - win situation, then there will be time where proper justification of pros and cons required, it was not easy, and you can't foresee what will be the consequences of each decision made, you just can walk step by step along your life journey based on decision made. Just like the above sentences "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both, And be one traveler, long I stood, And looked down one as far as I could, To where it bent in the undergrowth".

Therefore I was stuck in my own timeline, where I can't simply let go of my past, at the same time wondering about mysterious future in front of me. I hardly step on either one, because once I step on it, I have to sacrifice the other one, thus I was bound to my own dilemma.

As the time goes by, I had been exposed to various people, whose being kind and friendly , hippocratic, realistic, futuristic, idealistic and many more. And with those experiences I acquired along my journey, I began to see a light in my path, seems to be giving me some clues about my dilemma.

So I am now prepared to make my wise decision, so that I no longer stuck in my own path.

Strong and overcome your deep darkness

“If you have made mistakes, even serious ones, there is always another chance for you. What we call failure is not the falling down, but the staying down.” - Mary Pickford

Beyond childhood, you may have experienced setbacks or letdowns for which you clearly recall the reasoning. Often we are so opposed to change that the slightest sign a new way of doing things isn’t working out becomes the signal to stop trying. We are creatures of habit, and breaking the mold we’ve created for ourselves is a challenge few feel they have the time or the energy to face.

Failure does upset some of us, but as well provides lesson to be learnt, reminding us that the outcomes of your decision, especially when you are adolescent whose you have to be responsible for each action / decision to be made, You yourself accountable for your own choice. Life does comes with choices, although  not always, instead sometimes.

Realizing the fact, I have to justify each of my action / decision wisely as I have to bear the consequences afterward, which sound sweet if I made it right, or otherwise feel harsh when sadness comes in.

“All of us are born with a set of instinctive fears- of falling, of the dark, of lobsters, of falling on lobsters in the dark or speaking before the Rotary Club, and of the words “Some Assembly Required.” - Dave Barry

Where all else fails to stop us from achieving what we want from life, fear steps in. We experience fear on both conscious and unconscious levels, and it is one of the most limiting emotions we possess. In some cases fear is justified, and even healthy.

For example, a person contemplating crossing a busy street will harbor a healthy fear of being struck by two tons of rapidly moving steel commonly known as a motor vehicle (at least, if he or she is a reasonably sane person who understands the basic laws of physics: moving car + walking person = splat). This fear breeds caution, which causes the person to look both ways for oncoming traffic and wait for an appropriate time to venture across the road.

However, unjustified fear- which can be just as crippling and realistic as justified fear- is more often the case when fear is a factor. Not many people risk their lives on a regular basis. Humiliation, rejection, and failure top the list* of limiting fears that can be overcome with practice and determination.

Humiliation occurs everywhere, from the beginning of school life till the end of life, depends on situation, some people experienced it almost everyday. The feeling doesn't looks good, and one can never understand until he / she experienced it, which I believe will occur to most people nowadays.

Rejection can be in many senses, like application for jobs, universities, colleges, scholarships, relationship etc. I had experienced it few times, like during application for foreign scholarship, entrance to "apek" varsity etc. However I had realized these were part of my journey of life, and being lessons to be learnt.

Failure varies depends on people's individual perception. I kept on straining myself to overcome my own limit and thus whenever I can't achieve my expectation, I considered myself failed. However after serious reflection and thorough thinking, I knew that my efforts may not be sufficient but I still can work harder in subsequent attempts. I shouldn't being down, but instead keep strong and move forward.

* Actually, spiders top the list of fears for most people. Arachnophobia- fear of spiders- is the most common type of fear in the world. However, fear of spiders is completely justifiable, as spiders are creepy eight-legged insects with fangs, alien eyes, and a tendency to drop on you out of nowhere.

One of the easiest and most successful methods of dealing with fear is exposure therapy, which is actually facing your fears one small step at a time. If you don’t feel you can handle exposure therapy alone, enlist a friend to participate- especially if you can find a friend who doesn’t fear the same things you do. With exposure therapy, the objective is to experience fear to a small degree several times, so that each time it becomes easier to conquer. (Please note that exposure therapy does not apply to every situation. For example, if you are afraid of flying, it is not recommended that you leap from successively higher perches and attempt to become airborne.)

Quoted from book "The Power of Positive Thinking"

Living in the past? Time to look forward

“Upon our children, how they are taught, rests the fate- or fortune- of tomorrow’s world.” - B. C. Forbes

The things we learn in childhood aren’t easy to forget- mostly because we don’t actively remember them. It is far harder to dislodge subconscious thought. When we are unaware not only of why we embrace or avoid certain things, but also unaware of the fact that we are embracing or avoiding them, pinpointing the roots of our actions is a difficult process.

Childhood lessons don’t always come from our parents, and often not even the messages we received from them were intentionally placed there. For example, if your parents raised you to be helpful, courteous, polite, and giving, you may have learned those lessons so well that the very idea of doing something for yourself makes you cringe- and you may not know why. On the other hand, if your parents gave you everything you wanted without you ever asking for it or lifting a finger, you may project those same expectations on everyone around you- again, with no idea why you’re doing it, or even that you are doing it at all. Many times, outwardly selfish people are shocked to discover that others perceive them as selfish. They may even believe themselves the kindest, most benevolent people they know.

Whatever happened in the past remains lessons to be learnt, however one should look forward for better changes. As the saying goes: "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, today is present", that's why today is a gift for us everyday.

Destiny and self esteem

“The greatest revolution of our generation is the discovery that human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.” - William James

What’s holding you back? Even those who fully embrace the theory of positive thinking may feel some qualms over entrusting their lives to mere thought. There are many possibilities that could be producing weeds in your mental garden, and the best way to get rid of a weed is to yank it out, roots and all.

Perhaps all is about destiny, as humans can only plan, but God is the one to decide. Brain has 2 hemispheres, implying things come in both sides, positive and negative aspects, also implies other issues. Till now I think only one of my hemispheres was used, awaiting second brain to fulfill and enrich my another seldom used brain hemisphere, to make myself more complete.

For most of human existence, self-esteem was an unheard-of notion akin to the theories of those heretics who believed the world was round. The term “self-esteem” - defined by Webster’s Dictionary as “pride in oneself; self-respect” - made its way into the common public awareness during the ‘60s and ‘70s as a catch-all term to describe the essence of parenting problems. The “old ways” of parenting were pronounced barbaric and damaging to the budding self-esteem of our youth, and many parents fearful of raising unhappy, ill-adjusted children took advice that led to a generation of children with high self-esteem...so high it eclipsed personal responsibility and created a “me-first” mentality.

On the other hand, most of us are taught that thinking highly of ourselves is a vain, selfish and undesirable trait. Advice telling us to feel better about ourselves and occasionally put us first seems counterintuitive at best. After all, isn’t self-love the first step on the road to Ego Central? Many people want to feel good about
themselves, but guilt too often rears its ugly head and stops healthy self-esteem from developing.

Because of these conflicting viewpoints, self-esteem is a tricky little emotion to manipulate. It’s important to strike a balance between modesty and greed. It takes practice to convince yourself that you are a worthwhile and deserving person, while at the same time keeping in mind that you’re not the center of the universe. Though it may sound impossible, it’s actually simple to accomplish.

Destiny does plays some roles, but human efforts indeed important. Just try to put all your efforts and leave the rest to the God.

Hardship is temporary indulgent of self

“In every phenomenon the beginning remains always the most notable moment.”- Thomas Carlyle

To tune in to the power of positive thinking, you should probably start small particularly if you don’t believe it will work. It’s one thing to tell yourself, “Tomorrow, when I wake up in the morning I won’t hit snooze a dozen times and feel drowsy for the rest of the day,” and quite another to tell yourself, “Tomorrow, when I wake up in the morning I’ll be living independently wealthy and living in a mansion.” (Unless, of course, you are in fact independently wealthy and living in a mansion at the moment; in which case you might try to think your way into ownership of a small country.)

The process of making positive thinking work for you begins with destruction, or at least a mild shift in your thought structure. In order to make room for new methods and ideas, you must first tear out all the old negativity patterns you’ve been building throughout your life. For some, this can be a gradual process: as you witness positive thinking work for you, one small step at a time, you will slowly clear out those good-things-only-happen-to-other-people thoughts, and be able to cultivate the seeds of change.

Sometimes, I realized that some worries inside myself may be unnecessary, and compulsive thinking is not always be useful in all aspects, perhaps in certain aspects are good to be simple, using first instinct with proper justification, correct timing etc.

Hardships occur daily, sometimes those really made people get upset easily, support via friends, close friends, partner, motivations etc indeed are necessary to keep one strong to withstand.

I had been always cheer myself up no matter how "sourly" I had tasted. Probably these events are my challenges to mold my better self, I just can tell myself, do my best and leave the rest to happen as it flows.

“The greatest revolution of our generation is the discovery that human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.” - William James

New Year 2012 New Dedication

My dedication for this new year 2012 is to instilled positive thinking into my life, not only for problem solving, but also for sake of attitude and perception of life. Most of the following words are quoted from book called "Power of Positive Thinking"

Some people said that positive Thinking is a Bunch of Crap, however Crap does makes Great Fertilizer.

“A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.” Herm Albright

At some point in your life, you’ve probably heard about the power of positive thinking. Basically, this is a theory that contends if you believe good things will happen to you, there will be some sort of cataclysmic shift in the energies surrounding you which will actually cause good things to happen to you. For as many people who believe in the power of positive thinking, there are many more who believe it’s all a bunch of New Age pop psychology drivel or sugar-coated Peter Pan platitudes.

Here’s the kicker: they’re all right.

You see, positive thinking is a system of beliefs. So if you believe it doesn’t work then, of course, it won’t work. And if you believe it does work...well, you get the idea. For non-believers, using positive thinking is like trying to get a job after high school. You need experience to get a job, but you need a job to get the experience. It can be difficult to know where you’re supposed to start. But just like any other process, the key to making positive thinking work for you is to start small. Plant seeds, if you will, and then learn how to tend and cultivate those seeds until you have a mental garden that bears a phenomenal crop, year after year. Anything is possible with positive thinking...even if you do believe it’s all a bunch of crap.

Norman Vincent Peale, the father of positive thinking, once said: “If you have zest and enthusiasm you attract zest and enthusiasm. Life does give back in kind.” This is the essence of positive thinking. It’s not so much a theory as it is a contagious disease. Just as anger and negativity spread quickly from person to person, so do humor and happiness- only good feelings spread far faster. Think about it: have you ever noticed that the quickest way to ease a tense situation is to make a joke? The instant someone laughs or smiles, a sense of relief spreads through everyone in the vicinity. Even if the angered parties don’t feel better, they are at least able to discuss the problem in a detached and objective way, and get on with their lives instead of dwelling on negativity. For that same reason, solo drivers who get cut off in traffic tend to remain angry for at least the rest of the drive- because there is no one else near them to send out good vibrations and break the tension. Makes sense, doesn’t it?

If you’ve picked up these ideas and read this far, the seeds of belief are already there. Your next step is to clear your mind’s garden of doubt and get ready to plant. You’ll learn how to take all that negativity and mulch it down into fertilizer that will let your possibilities grow.

Now grab your shovel, and let’s head in to the garden.

Upon reflection throughout the year, I had realized that my mistakes in year 2011 are compulsive thinking, indecisive, and urge to push in most matters.

Compulsive thinking and indecisive made me think twice while choosing an option or making some important decisions, in fact now I knew those bad habits were wrong and now I will decide based on my instinct.

"Urge to push" should not be continued, instead I should change my approach to let everything goes natural as according to Lao Tze's Taoism philosophy, so that I won't worry for no reason like I do in my past 1 year.

Rainbow comes after rain

Switching Terminals: Hook Up to Positive Energy

“No pessimist ever discovered the secret of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new doorway for the human spirit.” - Helen Keller

Enthusiasm is the sunshine of your mind’s garden. Possessing enthusiasm for all that you do is essential to the process of positive thinking. Just as plants require sunlight to develop and grow, utilizing the power of positive thinking requires enthusiasm to energize your potential and ensure an endless supply of fuel.

You will discover that the more enthusiasm you generate, the more energy you’ll have to put in. There are some things it will be easy to generate enthusiasm over, and others where you’ll have to stretch yourself to find what will spark your enjoyment.

For example, no one has trouble generating enthusiasm for spending an unexpected bonus from work or taking a night out. However, you may find it hard to get excited about washing dishes or filling out your income tax forms. But part of the magic of positive thinking is developing the ability to find the good things in any situation and use them to get through the difficult parts.

Like developing a positive mindset, enthusiasm must be cultivated and sheltered from potentially damaging emotional storms. There are several methods you can use to put a dose of passion into everything you do, whether it’s finally taking that dream vacation or scrubbing out the basement. You can choose the method that best fits whatever situation you’re facing and ensure yourself the energy to tackle anything life happens to throw at you.

I understand that passion is the key to boost one's confidence, it works on me most of the times. I will try my best to be more positively minded, perhaps at present not suffice. Negative thoughts will make me suffer, and my life does not worth to be as such.........

What’s In It for Me?

One of the most elemental solutions for finding enthusiasm is to focus on the benefit you will derive from completing a particular task. In some situations it’s easy to discover the benefit. For instance, you may hate wrapping presents, but you know the person you’re giving the present to will be overjoyed when presented with this lovely paper-wrapped gift, and so you derive happiness from envisioning the recipient opening the present. This is an especially useful tactic when you’re still up at 2 a.m. on Christmas morning trying to figure out how to wrap the bicycle you’ve just spent three hours putting together.

Other circumstances will not have such obvious benefits. If you were to find yourself trying to change a flat tire on the side of the road in the middle of a snowstorm (or a rainstorm, if you are fortunate enough to live in a snow-free climate) it would undoubtedly be difficult to find your silver lining. Under stressful circumstances,
give yourself permission to think of the wildest benefit you can come up with.

Perhaps you were on your way to a party you would rather not have gone to. In that case, your flat tire would give you the perfect excuse to turn around and go back home.

There is some good in every situation, whether it’s in the form of a benefit or a lesson to be learned (Lesson One: Never drive with questionable tires through a snowstorm to a party you didn’t want to attend in the first place). You can harness the power of positive thinking by finding that good and exploiting it, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem.

Yes now I am awakened, and I understand that my current situation may not be favorable for me, however rainbow comes after rain, just like I mentioned in my previous blog about my friend's situation. And I myself witnessed the beautiful rainbow just in the evening. It tries to tell me that I will find a path of light after seeing and travelling through difficulties, darkness and unhappiness. I can't predict how long it takes, but I will try to make myself strong to be able to witness it. As my purpose of life: to seek for a path.......

Stillness Speaks

Recently one of my friends had told me about his unhappiness encountered which had kept inside his heart long ago. It is better to keep his identity anonymous. I can roughly understand how he feels.

He always asked me, what are the differences between island and land? This question kept amusing me, and only he told me that island is stand by its own and land is made up of many states, just like Penang as island, while other states in Penisular Malaysia as land. The only connection is via Penang bridge. Using this analogy, he attempts to describe himself as island, or other means being "isolated", I told him it is sometimes cannot be avoided.

He is always being positively minded that every thing in the world is wonderful, world is full of kindness, he was so naive in believing in others. He always believes in hope is all around. I can't really let him down by disagree with his statement, I always tell him "All is well" and "whatever kindness you gave will be repaid in future". I recalled that one of my close friends in Form 6, he ever told me that "for every event that happened to us there must be hidden agenda behind, it can be good or bad , depends on how you think". Thus I share this words of wisdom to my poor friend whose was often feel upset about his life. I may not be a good counselor, but I can be a good listener. I always listen to his problems and giving some encouragement to lighten him up.

I may be able to become his listener of problems, but I myself encountered some problems as I go through my life, and it is hard to find a listener to my problems. However comparatively his problems were more severe than I do.

He always asked himself, "Do I exist? Am I a shadow? Am I a blind or deaf? Do others have hearts to beat on?" I realized that he was so disappointed that people do not regard his existence, tend to "isolate" him, as he was infected with contagious disease, even if he has it, it was his "kindness" that others fear about it. Or perhaps people thought that he was blind or deaf that he cannot see or hear what other says or do to him. I can't really help much about this while just keep on calming him down, to comfort him. I tell him everything will be fine soon, as rainbow comes after raining. I advised him to meditate and reflect on himself, cheering himself on his passion, kindness, and other abilities that others may not have. I believe that everyone is born with own uniqueness, so does he.

Lastly, I feel that world may be unfair to certain people, but being strong to make it through is essential. Just like how I often tell myself, "No matter how harsh the odds against me, I will remain strong, because I believe in hope will arise one day"

My birthday wish (111111)

11 November 2011 --> 111111, the day with all same digit and started with 1, such a sweet date to be remembered, and as well reminded myself that I grew older that day.

I came out from my mother's womb 22 years ago, coincide that the combination of my birth month and date summed up. Being away from my home made me realized that how important a family is, and seeing delivery of babies made me realize how bad I was for not being good enough to my mother during the days when I was with her. I have about 2 more years to graduate, and I will decide my housemanship based on consideration of distance from my family.

When the day came (11/11/11), I suddenly recalled of myself 3 years back during my STPM time.

9/9/2008, I had celebrated one of my friends' birthday together with other friends, I told him that subsequent year his birth date will look good with 090909, should pick up chance to made something different, or better to be said as unforgettable memories, for instance engagement. Of course he treated my words as a joke, because  it depends on whether he managed to find his own soulmate before that day came.

And since I foreseen that my birth date will be look great 3 years later, I began to dream of something different during that day.

That day has come.........

Reflecting days before the date had come, 1 brain still end up as 1 brain, it never turn out to be 2 brains, similarly I will still end up with same consequence on that day. Apparently my enlightment has not come yet, still  wondering around. Maybe my time has not come yet, however I believe that one day it will.

It will be rather be a waste with special memories on special date, but I can just wait for the light path to shine towards me, the 2nd brain......

And if I was given a birthday wish, then it will be the one, which I had made since 3 years ago.

Only Human

On the other shore of sadness,

It is said that there is a smile,

On the other shore of sadness,
It is said that there is a smile,
Finally we arrived.
But what are we waiting for?

The purpose is not to run away,
It's to chase after dreams

We should have gone out to travel

On that summer day so long ago

In a place worn down by sadness

something called a miracle, is waiting
Yet we are still searching
for the sunflower that grows at the end of spring

The warrior who awaits the morning light

before he can clasp it with red nails,
his tears glitter and fall

Even if we’ve grown used to loneliness
only relying on the light of the moon
We have to fly away with featherless wing
just go forward, just a little further

Even tomorrow, if you see it
Though there isn't a sigh either.
Like a ship going against the current flow.
Right now, go forward, move ahead.

Even if it cuts through the rain and clouds,
The wet roads shine,
Only the dark will teach,
A stronger and stronger light,
Be strong, go forward, move ahead.

Sharing culture

Education is vital for future progression of human civilization as well as for development of modernization. Learning process involves input (via various reading materials) and output (concepts and ideas). Input and output of our knowledge are essential in learning. If we only receive information without sharing it with others, or at least applying it constantly, we’re not receiving a good education. Being stingy to others instead actually restrict your input and output volume. You don't believe? Just continue to read and you will understand the reason behind it.

Our brain is like a vast warehouse with billions of smaller stores inside. Each and every item we received are stored into the warehouse based on their categories. If we constantly put something in and take something out from the same store, eventually we’ll know where to find the location of the store. As simple as we get used of it, just like key idea of  Taoism philosophy, let everything comes into natural

Same goes to our brain, if we keep using the same information constantly, then when we need to retrieve that information, our brain knows where to find it.

However, if we receive something and stored in into its store and never touch it again. Then when the time comes for us to retrieve it, we won’t be able to find this “dark corner” storage item. This is equivalent to forgetting about it, and it'll be a shame to us.

Using my own experience in university life, I found out that everyone has his/her own study approach, of course it will be unfair to be judgemental towards others' study techniques. The only thing that I noticed is that people who opt to explain to others about certain topics (which I considered as initiation of sharing),  those people can retain their learning output much better, in context of duration. I believe they share the similar learning approach, i.e. learning by understanding.

Generally, learning approach can be classified into two broad categories: memorizing and understanding. Both have their pros and cons. However memorizing approach seem to be more "rampant" among Malaysian education system, beginning from pre-school until university level. On the other hand, Western countries apply mostly on understanding. In practice, both of them cannot be separated, they complement each other, just like YingYang philosophy, where both components (Ying and Yang) are closely together. So everything in the world is like a circle, a half of it is good and half of it is bad. So the start of one side is the end of the other one. Same goes with learning approach.

Similarly, I would to declare myself learner by understanding approach as major, my previous thought is that solely relying on understanding approach will be sufficient, but after sometimes (where I had few examinations encountered), I realised that both memorization and understand are essential to be a person with better knowledge (output), especially when I came in touch with YingYang philosophy in brief. However through sharing, the learner can be even better, because it shows that the person has the courage, confidence towards the words spoken from his/her mouth.

Therefore, don’t be shy or stingy to share your knowledge with others. Engage in info sharing or discussion. By sharing with one person, you’re contributing a small hand in human capital development, which will benefit the country and indirectly benefits you yourself. Besides, you don’t need to be afraid that he/she will be better than you, because if you’re the one who shares the info with him/her, that means you have one extra input-output cycle compare to him/her, so who is having the advantage here?

Justify by yourself, is there any loss you suffered from sharing info with others? I would say NO, you earned the listener(s)' respect, had your confidence boosted, understood yourself that you were able to confer your idea(s) to the others. Learning output via understanding consume less memory space (my personal view), thus I often able to learn more info with less capacity.

My learning philosophy now will be "Sharing is caring, knowledge beyond boundaries, no restriction" , from now until my last breath.

I would like to thank my friend who wrote a note regarding importance of sharing in his Facebook profile which gave me such inspiration to write this article. Deep gratitude and credit were given via acknowledgement at the bottom of this article.
